3The Interior of St. Michael  St. Michael is the first monumental church in the style of the Renaissance north of the Alps. The central vault of the church, the nave, made with bricks, is twenty meters in width – at that time the largest in Europe – and this opens onto the sanctuary. The pulpit on the left and the high altar stamps this space in a particular way. The architecture and all the furnishings serve to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ and to celebrate his memorial meal (the Eucharist). |
