16The ceiling decoration with the array of angels

The Renaissance adopted from Roman antiquity the fashion to decorate ceilings and walls with stucco. St. Michael is the first church in Munich, which was designed in this style. The vault of the nave was arranged purely ornamentally, the ceilings of the transepts and the sanctuary were complemented with figures and in the middle there is a ring of sixteen angels. As the Jewish, Christian and Muslim tradition represents, angels connect the world of humans with God’s Heaven.
