20The pulpit  In 1597 the pulpit of St. Michael was the first permanently installed pulpit in a church in Munich. The Renaissance period demanded a new (according to one´s lights) confrontation with the Church's tradition. The Jesuits complied with this request. In their churches a sermon or homily was delivered every Sunday – then an innovation. In the centenary of the consecration in 1697, a baroque pulpit was installed, designed by the Jesuit brother Johann Hörmann. |
